Half Moon Bay International Marathon partners with Brazzle Berry!

The Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) and BRAZZLE BERRY Half Moon Bay are teaming up to sponsor a Volunteer Drive for the upcoming HMBIM race. On Saturday, August 25, HMBIM staff will be on hand at the BRAZZLE BERRY Frozen Yogurt store's flagship location in Strawflower Village in Half Moon Bay to answer questions and to make it easy to sign up volunteers. In return, everyone who signs up as a volunteer will receive a FREE 5 oz serving of BRAZZLE BERRY frozen yogurt.

The Volunteer Drive will take place from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Saturday August 25, at Strawflower Center, 80 North Cabrillo Hwy. Suite M, in Half Moon Bay.  Volunteers of the HMBIM join with many others from the community to make the event happen, receive a FREE HMBIM shirt, and enter into a chance to win one of several local business giveaways.

"BRAZZLE BERRY is proud to support and be a part of the 2012 Half Moon Bay International Marathon event," said Barry Brazzle (or Dave Seaton?), Chief Berry Officer. "We recognize the amazing contribution the HMBIM is making again in 2012 and we are happy to entice people to come join in the fun with the best frozen yogurt around!"

"The HMBIM is very appreciative of BRAZZLE BERRY's support to sponsor the Volunteer Drive," said Eric Vaughan, HMBIM Executive Director. "In 2012 we're contributing over $1mm of direct economic benefit to the Coastside and the greater Bay Area by supporting the athletes who are traveling to the race, and we want the community to come join the fun and volunteer!"

The 2nd running of the sold-out HMBIM, to be held September 23, 2012,  features 1000 athletes from 35 states and 6 countries, along with world renowned athlete and author, Dean Karnazes, as the official guest of the race. The all volunteer force works together to ensure the race exceeds everyone's expectations, and sets a great example for Half Moon Bay as a community event. Full information on the event is available on the Web at http://halfmoonbayim.org.

About the Half Moon Bay International Marathon:

Featuring "26.2 Miles of Running Heaven", the Half Moon Bay International Marathon (HMBIM) was founded in 2011 to showcase the unique beauty of the California coast along with some of the best weather a marathon athlete could ever hope for. The inaugural event in 2011 featured athletes from 25 states and 4 countries and sold out in two months despite very little promotion. An official Boston Qualifier event sanctioned by the USA Track and Field organization, the HMBIM also focused on creating an eco-friendly event to consider the precious coastal community and worked to attain official status with the Council for Responsible Sport, receiving the coveted Gold Certification from this organization in the Event's very first year. The HMBIM features a full and half marathon and 10k and 5k events all on the same day.

About BRAZZLE BERRY:

Brazzle Berry
BRAZZLE BERRY is committed to providing an unparalleled consumer experience by offering self-serve yogurt in a clean, natural and relaxing atmosphere. Motivated by the healthy alternative that all natural yogurts offer, and inspired by the Brazilian culture and commitment to the acai berry, BRAZZLE BERRY strives to establish a dominant market leadership position in the health food sector within five years.

While the rapid growth of the self-serve yogurt industry has put little differentiation between true healthy alternatives and phony impersonators, BRAZZLE BERRY believes in serving only the highest quality, all-natural and freshest ingredients.

Aqua Beauty Lounge Grand Opening. Style and Prizes!

Aqua Beauty Lounge will host Grand Opening at New Harbor Village
03/29/12 from 6:30-9:00.

Aqua Beauty Lounge will hold an official Grand Opening Party on March
29th from 6:00- 9:00 pm and will include a special ribbon cutting
ceremony. There will be complimentary appetizers, champagne, and
cocktails. Additionally the girls will be offering free Bumble &
Bumble and Pureology samples as well as a 10 % discount on all hair
care products. The salon will feature an avant garde hair and makeup
fashion show with models wearing clothing supplied by Harbor Village’s
newest addition, Pink & Harmony. They will raffle off free salon
services, hair care products, and a selection of gift certificates
from renowned local vendors.

Half Moon Bay, Ca: Aqua Beauty Lounge, a full service salon located
within the Shops at Harbor Village, will formally introduce itself to
the Coastal business community by hosting their Grand Opening Event at
Harbor Village on Thursday March 29th,, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 pm.

Aqua Beauty Lounge is an upscale salon specializing in haircuts for
(men, women, and children) color, retexturing, bridal/special occasion
styling, makeup, and waxing services. They also carry a complete line
of luxury hair care products such as Bumble & Bumble and Pureology and
primarily use Goldwell Color Systems. They are open 7 days a week 9-5
and by appointment, always willing to accommodate walk-in guests.

While the original business plan for Aqua Beauty Lounge was developed
overtime, the concept was finally formalized towards the middle of
2011 when owners, Jenny Rico (age 27) and Katelyn Mullins (age 27),
started the general partnership as 50/50 partners. The story behind
the girls coming together dates back even further. Both Jenny Rico and
Katelyn Mullins actually attended Half Moon Bay High School, where
they both first met.

Jenny Rico was originally born in Mexico Salamanca, Guanajuato. She
came to live in Half Moon Bay during her Sophomore Year of high school
where she immediately realized her passion for beauty and initially
conceived the dream to one day open up a salon of her own. Shortly
after graduating from Half Moon Bay High School, she attended
cosmetology school and is now working towards 8 years as a stylist.

Katelyn Mullins is a third generation Half Moon Bay resident to Nancy
Mullins and the Late Battalion Chief Gene Mullins, who served with the
South County Fire Protection Authority from 1975 through the mid 90’s.
Katelyn attended Farallone View Elementary, Cunha Intermediate, and
Half Moon Bay High School. After high school, Katelyn moved to San
Diego, Ca where she received her B.A. in Communication from San Diego
State University and later attended Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School.
Missing her friends and family on the Coast Side, and having a passion
for cosmetology she moved back to Half Moon Bay where she reunited
with high school friend and fellow hairstylist, Jenny Rico, at Mizu
Salon El Granada.

When they found out that Mizu El Granada may be put up for sale or
have the lease terminated the two immediately realized that all of
their past, efforts, goals and dreams could be seized by taking the
leap of faith and launching their own salon. They immediately saw the
potential of Harbor Village.
From the allure from the pipeline of weddings booked through the
Oceano Hotel and Spa, to the beautiful ambiance of the mall, the girls
saw Harbor Village as the ideal location to launch Aqua Beauty Lounge.

Aiming to maintain an amiable and cohesive salon environment, the
girls decided to bring along stylists and long time Half Moon Bay
residents, Tyla Piercy (Formerly Tyla Henschel), Lacey Clark, Malenda
Silva and Coley Nishkian. They have also recently brought on board
Herman Ortiz and Natalie Morris to round out their incredibly dynamic
team of local talented stylists.

The vision for Aqua Beauty Lounge was to create a modern and trendy
ambiance that would differentiate their salon from others of the
Coastside. The Aqua Beauty Lounge mission is to provide Coastside
locals with the convenience of being able to receive top quality
services at affordable prices in a salon with a more upscale feel,
without having to drive over the hill or to the city.

GRAND OPENING will take place on Thursday March 29th from 6:00- 9:00 pm

SFSU Handbell Choir April 28th at Harbor Village!

Half Moon Bay, Ca: The Shops At Harbor Village Will Host the SFSU Handbell Choir on Saturday April 28th at Noon. The group will perform inside the Mall Atrium where seating and tables will be set-up. The merchants at Harbor Village are extremely excited to host the group for their spring performance. Caroline Harnly, a librarian at SFSU, is the group's director and founder. She is also the director of Bells of Joy, the Community United Methodist Church of Half Moon Bay’s handbell choir. Caroline Harnly would be the best point of contact for this event and she can be reach via email at charnly@sfsu.edu.
About the SFSU (San Francisco State University) Handbell Choir:The SFSU (San Francisco State University) Handbell Choir was formed in 1997. The group performs approximately 10 times a year. They regularly perform at various SFSU campus events, at senior residences in San Francisco and on the Peninsula, and as part of Redwood City's annual Hometown Holiday celebration. Once a semester they give a joint concert with the Temple Hill Choir, an auditioned vocal choir based in Oakland. The group also participates in the annual Days of Christmas concert series at Temple Hill in Oakland. They have given three concerts at the San Francisco Zoo, certainly one of our more interesting performance venues! The group rings on 4 1/2 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and on 3 1/2 octaves of Malmark handchimes. The handbell choir members are a mixture of SFSU faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends. The handbell choir frequently performs as a small ensemble of five -- playing what is known as 12-bell music. For these performances, we only use 12 handbells and play from music stands instead of in the traditional "off the table style". Caroline Harnly, a librarian at SFSU, is the group's director and founder. She is also the director of Bells of Joy, the Community United Methodist Church of Half Moon Bay’s handbell choir. Caroline is also a member of Low Ding Zone, the world's first bass bell only handbell ensemble, and performs regularly as a handbell soloist.

Mavericks Big Wave Surf Competition…………

For those of you who know or do not know The Mavericks Big Wave Surf competition is one of the most recognizable contests and event in the industry. The window for the event opens in December and closes on March 31st. The contest is called on a 24 hour notice, where surfers from local spots and around the world hurry to catch the massive waves, and be a part of history. In recent years if the contest was not called in this time frame the contest was canceled, leaving thousands hanging . Instead they changed that this year. If the competition is called or time runs out on March 31st Mavericks is happening at Oceano Hotel and Spa and the Shops at Harbor Village. An event is being planned for live music guests, famous surfers, shop vendors, food vendors, bbq, family fun, fundraisers, and much more. The event will show highlights of the massive surf spot and honor the people who have made it famous, alive and dead. The event at Harbor Village will kick off a surf season for the year. If the contest is not called then we sit and wait for next year’s window hoping any day organizers call on the event from activity they see up north. Look for a movie on Mavericks and Jay coming soon to the movies!
